Using the cards dealt to each player, the fundamental idea of rummy is to create legitimate sets and sequences. Players usually try to meld their cards into valid 7 rummycombinations before their opponents do, using a standard 52-card deck. Each player is typically dealt a certain number of cards at the start of the game, with the remaining cards forming a draw pile. In order to improve their hands and get rid of unwanted cards, players alternately draw cards from the draw or discard piles.
