A-list actor Timothée Chalamet may play a poker player in 2019's A Rainy Day in New York, but the 29-year-old also has poker chops in real life.

That much was revealed during the 2025 Golden Globes, where Chalamet was nominated for "Best Performance by a Male Actor" for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.

The French-American actor believably depicted the legendary folk rock musician in a biopic that documented a tumultuous cultural shift in the mid-1960s but lost out to Adrien Brody for his performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist.

Can Chalamet Play Poker?

In a red-carpet interview with Zuri Hall for E! News, Ellie Fanning, who plays Chalamet's love interest in the Dylan biopic, was asked if there was anything about the young actor that would surprise viewers.

"He's so dedicated and focused in his work, he's actually kind of just a goofball. And he's pretty good at poker," the 26-year-old said.

Fanning, the sister of fellow actress Dakota Fanning, also revealed that she plays poker for play money on PokerStars, though she wouldn't offer up her screen name.

Is Fanning better at poker than Chalamet? "I don't know. No, not necessarily," Fanning said. "But I do play online. I play on PokerStars. But it's not real money."

Chalamet also discussed poker briefly with podcaster Theo Von last month while talking about another A Total Unknownco-star, Ed Norton, who decades earlier played one of the most memorable characters in poker movie history.

"You ever see Rounders?" Chalamet asked Von. "You ever play Texas hold'em?"

Chalamet has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards. He notably attended the ceremony with socialite Kylie Jenner, who he is dating.
