Players have to weigh the potential value of a card to both themselves & their opponents before discarding it. If a player has several cards with the same rarummy mordennk, for instance, they might want to save those cards in case they can later in the game form a set. In contrast, a player may want to think about discarding cards that they don't think will be helpful in creating sets or sequences in order to reduce their point total in the event that an opponent goes out first.
