Discarding is a strategic evaluation of what could be advantageous to oneself and one's opponents, not just getting rid of unwanted cards. For instance, a player may unintentionally give an opprogressive slotsponent an advantage if they discard a card that could aid them in finishing a meld. Players must thus carefully evaluate which cards to discard in light of their own requirements as well as the possible effects on other players. It takes strategic thinking to draw cards as well. Players have the option to draw from the discard pile or the stockpile, each of which has ramifications.
