While a sequence is made up of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, a set is made up of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. One face-up card initiates the discard pile, while the remaining cards form a draw pile. After drawing a card from the draw or discard pile, each player discards one card from their hand.
