Rummy is fundamentally about creating melds, which are card combinations that can be runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit) or sets (three or four cards of the same rank). When another player leaves the game, players must try to arrange their hands so they can lay down these melds while minimizing the number of points they have left.
