Usually played with a standard 52-card deck, the game can be played by two to six players, though there are variations for larger groups. Creating sets and runs out of the cards dealt to each player is the main goal of rummy. While a run is made up of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, a set is made up of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. Usually, a certain number of cards are dealt to each player at the start of the game, and the remaining cards are arranged in a draw pile. Players take turns selecting cards from the discard or draw piles in an effort to build better hands by creating combinations that are allowed.
